Emmieism's

Mom:  I put your glasses case in your backpack in case you don't have one at school.

Emmie:  In case....good one!

Speaking to Jeanne and Claire over dinner...

Mom:  Emmie gave me $14.50 from her savings as a Christmas present.

Emmie:  Yeah, I was sad because Grandma and Grandpa gave Mommy a $100 bill for her birthday, and I couldn't give her that much, but Mom explained to me that $14.50 is of my savings is meaningful because it's all of my savings.  Grandma and Grandpa have a lot of money.  They're loaded.....like a potato!

Emmie was in the shower, and Mom popped into the bathroom to ask if she had washed her hair:

"Please leave me alone.  I'm 9.  I'm hitting double digits this year."

Emmie called me into her room late at night.  She couldn't sleep because she hadn't told me that she dropped the bag of apricots from her loft bed onto the floor, and the apricots spilled out and had dog hair on them (for the record, she had given me the bag of apricots to put back in the cabinet earlier in the evening):

Emmie:  I just can't lie anymore.

Mom:  Anymore?  What changed?

Emmie:  I think it's my conscience.  Is that what it's called?

(conversation about her conscience ensued)

Emmie:  Technically, I hadn't lied though.  You didn't ask me if I dropped the apricots on the floor when I gave the bag to you to put away.

Twins & Tacos

Claire and Jeanne joined us for a taco and quesadilla night before they return to UNI to finish their Junior year (Claire spent the Fall in Spain and Jeanne leaves Friday):

Train

Given a -32 temperature (with wind chill), school was cancelled the first day back from Break.  Emmie and I spent the day cleaning up and putting together Plasticville, and swapping the basement family room (which had become a toy room) with the fitness room to create an actual toy room, fitness area in the basement family room and space for the train!

Glasses

Emmie made a visit to Dr. Anderson, and left the appointment with a prescription for glasses.  She loves them:

Paradise (at -32 degrees)

G&G gave Emmie a towel warmer for Christmas.  This was the first time she got to use it:
"I could get used to this!  This is like paradise!"

New Year's

Grandpa picked up Emmie at the exchange.  We all had a couple hours together at G&G's house to celebrate the New Year.  Grandpa passed down buildings from his train set, and made Emmie a train car with stickers (Emmie's Train, Subway, Parlor City).

Emmie wanted to buy this Nut Roll for Grandpa for Christmas, but Mom wouldn't pay full price.  Luckily, it went on closeout such that we were still able to present him with the novelty gift:
