The Many Emojis of Crosley

Halloween - Costume Walking

We didn't TOT because of Covid, but instead, went costume walking. Emmie claimed to know that the idea was "Eric and Mom's devilish plan to get her to go on a dog walk."

We stopped by Mariann's house to show her Emmie's costume. Mariann literally looked around / past us and said, "Where's Emmie?" Mom pointed to Emmie (standing next to her) and Mariann couldn't believe that Emmie was as tall as Mom. She went on to reminisce about the days when Emmie was "this small" and running around with a butterfly net in her yard.

Upon returning home, Emmie TOT'ed in the house by going up and down the stairs to find the newly closed door where Eric or I waited. Again, Emmie played along, but questioned us, "Is this your way to get me to do stairs on top of an hour dog walk?"

Model Student

Despite the quality of the product, it should be known that Emmie built this quicker than she ate it (and it was consumed within seconds of Mom taking a picture).

KEY:

Red - Calcium (Ca)

Orange - Oxygen (O)

Yellow - Carbon (C)

The gumdrop model represents the formula:

CaCO3 —> CaO + CO2

The left side of the model represents the reactants. Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) is the reactant in this case. When Calcium Carbonate, the reactant, is heated, Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is released and Calcium Oxide (CaO) is formed. The Carbon Dioxide and Calcium Oxide are the products and displayed on the right side of the chemical formula.

The law of conservation of mass “is the natural law that states the same amount of mass is present before and after a chemical reaction. In other words, the total number of atoms of each element before and after a chemical reaction remains the same.” This is displayed in the model by the fact that there are 3 Oxygen atoms, 1 Calcium atom and 1 Carbon atom on each side of the arrow. There are 3 orange, 1 red and 1 yellow on both the left and the right.

The periodic table can be used to figure out how the atoms bond. The octet rule “is a chemical rule that reflects the observation that main group elements tend to bond in such a way that each atom has eight electrons in its valence shell.” The periodic table shows that Calcium has 2 electrons in its valence shell, Carbon has 4 and Oxygen has 6. This explains how the bonds/toothpicks connect in the model:

CaCO3: Carbon gives 2 electrons to one of the Oxygen atoms. Carbon gives 1 electron to the other 2 Oxygen atoms. These two Oxygen atoms now have 7 so Calcium gives them each 1.

CaO: Calcium gives 2 electrons to Oxygen.

CO2: Carbon gives 2 electrons to each Oxygen.

Hair We Go Again!

During Emmie and Mom time (Friends, Big Bang or a movie these days), Emmie's latest intrigue is the styling of my hair. I suppose my facial expression in the latter two pictures is indicative of my respective rating of each style:

GJ + M&K Weekend

Smoothies & Movies
(Emmie has been on a Murder Mystery movie kick so we've watched Clue, Murder on the Orient Express and the ever clever named movie, Murder Mystery, amongst others)

The game of Mafia dominated mealtimes. After a round and in frustration, Grannie threw her paper (indicating her role) onto the table and it landed in her wine glass. Emmie, "I know you're ready to be done playing, but you didn't have to go that far Grannie."

Kallie and Emmie couldn't sleep so they asked if I'd watch Friends with them (Emmie knows I rarely say no to this request). The flash surprised them and hence, the expressions. Hah!

Helvetica Good Time

Emmie enjoys making what she calls "Edits" for her friends and family. She made these two for Mom to use as her Home Screen and Wallpaper:

Puparazzi Pictures

Apparently, dogs get tired of watching Eric work.

Lu was literally sliding further into the crack as time passed.

Emmie slept like a dog (and with them)!

No Snow Day

Emmie was bummed to learn that school (Virtual Academy) was still in session despite the weather! Having outgrown her own winter wear, Emmie left the house in Mom's snow gear, which caused Eric to do a double take.

E&E

Emmie recently re-designed Mom's phone in an outdoor theme. The upper left picture changes with each open. E&E's last ice cream outing appeared as the random picture (of more than 1000) during this outing....dun, dun, dunnn?!?!

Goshen / Granger

UD and AG recently moved to Granger. Szynal's are nearby in Goshen. Pre-travel isolation by all and two homes made for a hopeful safe first and last family gathering of 2020.

Granger:

Indoor Snowball Fight

Emmie taught TikTok dances to the younger cousins:

The new pool won't be heated until Summer 2021. This fact didn't stop Emmie from literally jumping in feet first.

All of the tennis courts within a 30 mile radius were locked up so Uncle Don, DJ and Mom resorted to street tennis (or rather, parking lot tennis).
